HOW TO USE THE WORD OF GOD

The word of God is God’s gift to us to keep our spirit, soul and body in accordance to his design and desire.

God’s word is his answer to all of human’s problems. (Romans 1:16) God’s word has the ability and capacity to change any situation. It always produces what it talks about. The word of God is life for your spirit, health for your body and wisdom for your life.

According to the book of Proverbs “the word of God is life and health to our flesh”. Proverbs 4:20-22 “My son, attend to my word; incline thine ear unto my sayings- let them not depart from thine eyes, keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

There are three steps involved in the application of the word of God:

1.     Attending to the word: Attending to the word means presenting yourself or making yourself available to the word. The word “incline” used in proverbs 4, mean “to step aside”.

This means giving a special attention to the word despite any situation or circumstance. The word “health” in proverbs 4:20-22 is translated from the Hebrew word “marpe” which means “cure” or “medicine”.

The word is the best medicine you can think of, so give it your attention. But for you to effectively apply the word of God, you must first know what the word talks about to rightly apply it. So step aside and study the word.

Ignorance of God’s word has been the problem of many complaining Christians. Hosea 4:6 says “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Get the word of God into your spirit and no sickness would ever have the power or ability to break your spirit, soul or body”.

2.      Speaking the word: This is the second step in applying the word of God to your body or situation. According to Joshua 1:8 “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous and then thou shalt have good success”.
